EXT. NIGHT. Erasmus walks the streets his figure obscured by the his hood. He is deep in thought. The credits wraps as he walks into a restaurant.
INT. NIGHT. Ian sits alone, trying to hide his nervousness. He has a cigarette in his hand and he wields it nervously. Erasmus notices him and comes over to sit. There is a beat and the waitress comes over to fill their glasses.
WAITRESS I’m sorry sir, you cant smoke that in here.
The black waitress looks annoyed as Ian reluctantly puts out his cigarette on the table. He gives her a placating smile.
IAN We’ll take two coffees honey. Thanks.
She give him a look begrudgingly walks off.
IAN (CONT’D) Jesus Christ. Did you see that?
ERASMUS What?
IAN That look she gave me. She’s lucky I’m even eating at this PIECE OF SHIT place. I don’t even know why I agreed to meet you here. This whole neighborhood is going to shit man. Complete fucking shit.
ERASMUS It’s still got character. I don’t think its all that bad.
IAN You don’t? You don’t think its all that bad? I swear this used to be and upscale place. Now Its like when I walked from my car to the cafe and I’m blinded by 50 shades of brown and black. I dont even fucking hear English.
ERASMUS Things are different here since senior prom.
IAN Shit man. Those were the days. We’d drink a 5th of Irish bottom shelf and end up in a place like this with half the class. Classic as fuck.
ERASMUS That probably isn’t such a bad thing. Everything changes. The law of change is the only thing that doesn't.
IAN Where’d you read that the back of a
captain cruch box? Can you do me a
favor and stay out of the hallmark
greeting section?
And what the hell do you even know
about it Erasmus. Ever since you
moved ---
ERASMUS Please. Don’t use that name.
IAN Huh?
ERASMUS I would appreciate it if you didn’t use my name here. In public.
IAN Oooh, oh yea. Because of the--the favor
The waitress comes and sets the coffee on the table. They sit quiet for a second.
ERASMUS How many times do I have to tell you?
IAN I know, I know the rules. I’m just... I’m just eager to hear how it went.
IAN (CONT'D) I talk a lot when I’m eager... or nervous ...or ...all the time...
Erasmus takes a beat, breaks eye contact and reaches for the flask in his jacket pocket. He pours liquor into his coffee.
(Flashback to ‘murder’. Erasmus is choking a woman.)
IAN (CONT’D) Just like old times?
Erasmus fills Ian’s cup
IAN (CONT’D) You are the man.
He continues to hold his cup out and Erasmus gives him another shot.
IAN (CONT’D) So ... don't let me stew... How’d it go?
ERASMUS Do you have the money?
IAN Ah yea.
Ian slides over a briefcase under the table with his foot.
ERASMUS Thank you. It went well. Better than expected.
IAN Better than expected? Wow ...so you did it... The cunt is ...Wait don’t tell me. I mean do tell me, but give me the details.
ERASMUS ... What do you want to know?
IAN Start at the beginning, what happened. How’d you... how’d you do it?
ERASMUS By the numbers. As always.
IAN But like, give me the details...
Erasmus looks at him annoyed
IAN (CONT'D) Tell me everything.
Erasmus sighs.
EXT. OUTSIDE OF APARTMENT
Erasmus walks up to an apartment dressed as a repairman. We are once again behind his back as he walks up.
INT. IAN AND CLARA’S APARTMENT.
Ian and has moved and the depressed and lonely Clara sits in her underwear, kimono hanging loosely around her body. She paints her toenails while looking through her phone. She is covered isn’t expecting company and the apartment is somewhat messy. She hears a knock at the door and looks over to it. She runs to answer, then runs back and puts on some eye makeup. The runs back to look in the mirror.
CLARA Who is it?
ERASMUS (outside the door, he does an accent) It’s Heating and Cooling
CLARA Who? (she yells)
ERASMUS HEATING AND COOLING. From the front desk.
CLARA ... ...coming.
She opens the door. Her kimono is tied and she looks a bit more together.
CLARA (CONT’D) About fucking time. Its like satan’s asshole in here.
Erasmus chuckles. She moves back into the apartment and Erasmus follows. He squats in front of air vent.
IAN Of course she answers the door dressed like a Chinese whore.
ERASMUS It’s from japan I think.
IAN I’m pretty sure that particular whore accessory was made in china.
ERASMUS Is that all you wanted to know
IAN Nah man, please continue.
----------
CLARA So... you’re the repair man?
ERASMUS Yes. I’m from the front office. Why do you ask.
CLARA I mean... nothing you just don’t look like a repair man.
ERASMUS Why do you say that?
CLARA No plumber's crack. No... ugly wife beater two sizes to small. No stains. No lewd remarks. No smell.
ERASMUS Hurtful stereotypes. Not all repair man are fat perverts. (He chuckles)
CLARA No, just the guy who the desk usually sends.
He reaches in the his bag and grabs the handle of a knife. He then notices the carpet and puts his knife away.
CLARA (CONT’D) Do you want a drink?
ERASMUS Thanks. I don't drink while I'm working.
CLARA I meant like a soda or something, its like 10 am man. Its just a southern hospitality thing, not a ‘I’m trying to get you day wasted thing’
ERASMUS Oh, well in that case I’m especially uninterested
CLARA We’ll I just want to make sure you aren’t thirsty. Its... really hot. You know.
Erasmus looks back at her as she fans herself with her kimono revealing her bra. Erasmus begins searching through his bag. It seem’s as if he’s forgotten something a needs.
Clare goes into the next room and puts on music.
ERASMUS Would you mind if I use your bathroom?
CLARA You don’t need a hallpass man. Make yourself at home.
Erasmus goes into the bathroom. He finds his strangulation tool and unvravels it while he pees off camera. A song from Ella Fitzgerald plays as he washing his hands.
------------
IAN Why didn’t you just kill her than? Why wait.
ERASMUS Have you ever tried to get blood out of carpet?
IAN So... you were trying to save me on carpet cleaning.
ERASMUS I assumed that you didn’t want to spend the rest of your life in prison when the cops test the stains.
IAN Just one of your many services?
ERASMUS Keeping my clients out of jail serves use both. The boyfriend is always the first suspect.
IAN ...Smart guy. Ok, go on. Then what happened?
